Thoughts for Success: Living a Life of Significance

I aspire to live a life of significance and this quote reminds me that living that life requires intention.

How significant is it to get the highest score in Candy Crush® or be the fastest responder in Words With Friends®? Time is a precious gift, not to be wasted. What will you do today to be significant?

Vickie’s Favorite Quotes: Bill Bryson

I just got back from tracking gorillas in Rwanda – a country I never thought I’d visit and an experience I never thought I’d have. My twin brother, Vince jokes that he loves animals more than he loves people. After experiencing gorillas in the wild, I know why. LOL! When a gorilla looks at you the experience is spiritual. It’s like they are looking into your soul and affirming all the mysteries of life.

When traveling we discover ourselves (and our potential) as much as we discover others. What country would you like to travel to next?

Thoughts for Success: Promises to Make to Yourself

How often do you handle emergencies at your RN job as easily as making the bed? How often do you make split second decisions that are the difference between life and death for your patients? Promise #5 reminds us that if we can do all that, for sure we can do something as straightforward as talk to an attorney and analyze medical records.

The more you succeed, the more you will succeed because you believe you can. Don’t underprice yourself or your RN expertise. Always remember, We Are Nurses and We Can Do Anything!®

Promise #4 reminds us to surround ourselves with as many successful mentors as possible. Inept coaches don’t just fail to help you, they actually help you to fail. As Vince Lombardi said, “Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.” Practicing a bad tennis swing doesn’t improve your game. Hanging out with negative naysayers won’t grow you or your CLNC® business.

Commit to actively seek out new, challenging experiences and people who will push you to the next level. If you want to run with the big dogs, you have to run with the big dogs.

Thoughts for Success: Promises to Make to Yourself

Promise #2 reminds us that the opposite of success is not failure. The opposite of success is NOT stepping out, NOT going for what you want in your life or your RN job – whether it’s legal nurse consulting, an advanced RN degree or simply going for a promotion. Every time you step out into the unknown, win or lose you succeed. You might get a rejection or two, or three, but you won’t end up at your hospital retirement party or 90th birthday party with nothing more than plain white cake, unspiked punch and regrets.

Sure, bad things can happen when we step out, but I believe worse things happen to our souls when we don’t.

Thoughts for Success: Promises to Make to Yourself

Promise #1 reminds us that we don’t have two-compartment lives – an RN life and a personal life. We only have one life. You can’t turn passion off at your RN job and go home and turn it on again – you just can’t.
