I completed Vickie’s CLNC Certification Program after a local attorney suggested that I look into legal nurse consulting. I had recently torn an article about legal nurse consulting out of my Nurse Practitioner Journal. I considered those two coincidences to be a sign. What a sign it truly was!
I was mentoring a CLNC consultant who is working with a new managing partner at one of the law firms she consults with. This law firm is her biggest client and she’s always worked well with the prior managing partner. He trusted her and pretty much gave her free reign in just about everything she did, from budgeting for cases to the work product she produced. From her point of view, it was a perfect relationship.
Certified Legal Nurse Consultants generally belong to one of three tribes: Microsoft, Apple or Google. Each tribe has its own native calendar. In the Microsoft world it’s Outlook, the Applers use iCal and the Googlers use Google Calendar. Medium to large law firms, for the most part, are members of the Microsoft tribe, while solo practitioners and small firms can be in any of the three.
Thanksgiving is about taking one day to give thanks for all that we have now, all that we have had in the past and all the possibilities we have in the future. Some of us are most thankful for our family and friends, our health, the people we work with and the freedom to be who and what we choose.
Most of us check our social media accounts as frequently as our email. After all, these are our “friends” and we expect everyone to keep it friendly. So you can imagine how surprised one American was when he became a defendant after being served by an Australian plaintiff via a wall post on Facebook.
I don’t know about you, but there’s nothing I like less than going to bookmark a webpage and having to click on either Bookmarks and then Bookmark This Page or onto Favorites, then Add to Favorites or some other such multi-step process. When you’re a busy Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, time does equal money so here’s a time-saver for all my CLNC amigos. Instead of mousing about, clicking and clicking to bookmark your new, favorite legal nurse consulting resource, just hold down your Control button and hit the “D” button or “Ctrl-D” in tech-speak.
Krista M. Bradley, RN, BSN, CLNC, shares that her cousin, a fourth year law student, learned about the CLNC Certification in law school, wrote a paper about it and recommended – at a family party – that she become a CLNC consultant. Krista also shares that she received her first case from another attorney even before she completed the CLNC 6-Day Certification Seminar.
In the VIP Business Development Luncheon at the CLNC 6-Day Certification Seminar a student, Carol, shared that her cousin said to her “How can you become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant when you’re just a pediatric nurse?” The group booed the cousin who wasn’t there, affirming that one should never pay attention to a negative naysayer. That family member who knew nothing about legal nurse consulting was hardly qualified to dispense advice on whether Carol can or cannot succeed. But Carol was almost ready to buy into that dream-crusher’s bad and mean-spirited advice.
Many of us work well into the night at our computers. Whether you’re working on projects for your Certified Legal Nurse Consulting business, something personal or just closing out your Facebook and email for the evening, you’re exposed to the full brightness of your computer monitor. If you’re like me, your computer is in a room with windows, which means either the computer or I am the brightest light in the room and contrast highly against the dark of night.
Jennifer Craigmyle, RN, CLNC shares how, on an attorney’s recommendation, she flew from California to Georgia, to become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. The attorney who recommended that she get certified as a CLNC consultant also gave her two cases as soon as she returned home from the CLNC 6-Day Certification Seminar. Jennifer shows yet another example of how attorneys are recommending the CLNC Certification and rewarding nurses for obtaining it!
