COVID-19 Pandemic Challenges I’m Facing as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant

Owning and operating a legal nurse consulting business has presented me with unique challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, but not in the way many may think. I’ve been fortunate to continue with my typical flow of medical-related cases and the same attorney-clients. I’ve even gained two new attorney-clients through a referral during the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though the courts are closed and attorneys are working remotely from home, cases still need to be reviewed and worked up as usual.

Nothing reduces stress more than a great vacation – at least once you get over the stress of traveling. Getting off the grid is never easy. Traditionally, no matter how busy I am, I make it my goal at least once a year to get far away, into something so different that it forces me out of my regular stress-relief routine into one that entirely disconnects me from my legal nurse consulting business and life’s routine challenges.

Are You the Eiffel Tower of Legal Nurse Consulting?

During the COVID-19 pandemic I’m traveling mentally more than physically. Today I’m sitting in Paris in one of my favorite bistros. I’ve just finished a lunch of healthy red wine, a hot baguette, pomme frites and some luscious stinky cheese such as you can only find in France. I’m looking at the first thing that usually comes to mind (well, maybe the second thing) when you think of Paris – the Eiffel Tower. Tom says he thinks of pomme frites and just having indulged, I’d say pomme frites are right up there for me too, but the “Tour Eiffel” is the instantly identifiable iconic image, which undeniably brings Paris to mind.

Legal Nurse Tip – Experience Isn’t All It’s Chalked Up to Be

Legal Nurse Tip – Experience Isn’t All It’s Chalked Up to Be

I recently mentored a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who had completed a project for an attorney. She confessed that she knowingly went down a rabbit trail and spent too much time screening the case. The result – she was uncomfortable billing for all of her hours. I asked her to describe her plan for solving this issue and her response was, “I guess I’ll just chalk this one up to experience.” That was exactly the WRONG THING TO SAY to me, especially because of the way she acted like this just happens all the time in business. I was all over that like a goose on a bug.
