Thoughts for Success: Promises to Make to Yourself

Promise #4 reminds us to surround ourselves with as many successful mentors as possible. Inept coaches don’t just fail to help you, they actually help you to fail. As Vince Lombardi said, “Practice doesn’t make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect.” Practicing a bad tennis swing doesn’t improve your game. Hanging out with negative naysayers won’t grow you or your CLNC® business.

Commit to actively seek out new, challenging experiences and people who will push you to the next level. If you want to run with the big dogs, you have to run with the big dogs.

Thoughts for Success: Promises to Make to Yourself

Promise #2 reminds us that the opposite of success is not failure. The opposite of success is NOT stepping out, NOT going for what you want in your life or your RN job – whether it’s legal nurse consulting, an advanced RN degree or simply going for a promotion. Every time you step out into the unknown, win or lose you succeed. You might get a rejection or two, or three, but you won’t end up at your hospital retirement party or 90th birthday party with nothing more than plain white cake, unspiked punch and regrets.

Sure, bad things can happen when we step out, but I believe worse things happen to our souls when we don’t.

Thoughts for Success: Promises to Make to Yourself

Promise #1 reminds us that we don’t have two-compartment lives – an RN life and a personal life. We only have one life. You can’t turn passion off at your RN job and go home and turn it on again – you just can’t.

Tom’s Tech Tip: Do Something Special for Your Spouse – Today (or for Valentine’s Day)!

After 23 years of marriage it’s more challenging to come up with something special for my spouse. By special I mean that wow experience – the one that takes her breath away and gets me one or two husband points. Special is going above and beyond fixing the display on her dual monitors, debugging her Outlook installation or setting up a darknet so she can communicate with other CEOs about issues and topics well above my pay grade.

Got Your 2014 Resolutions? I’m Just Askin’

For 2013, my resolution was to see a world that is bigger and brighter than the one I saw in 2012. Not only did I see that bright world, but because I did, I managed to accomplish some bigger things than even I expected.

The Happier You Are, the Happier You Are

I love the joy of the Christmas season, but I can’t help but notice that we are a society that’s becoming more and more obsessed with happiness at the expense of happiness. You can practically hear people thinking: “If I get this I’ll be happy. If I look like that I’ll be happy. If I drive this, wear this, watch this or eat this… I’ll be happy,” You know what I’m talking about, you’ve probably got your own “If I” working right now. Admit or deny. Mine is “If only I had more hours in the day…”

‘Tis the Season – Joy to the World of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

Christmas is just five days away and I’m so excited because I get to share it with my 4 ½-year-old niece. Reese is a bundle of energy and joy and her enchanting energy is heightened by the holidays. Remember the excitement you felt as a child on Christmas Eve? Everything was bigger at Christmas – the trees were bigger, the ornaments were bigger and the presents were bigger.

I was getting off an airplane yesterday and saw that a woman had left her cell phone in her seat. I picked it up and asked the flight attendant to stop the woman who was just leaving the aircraft. The traveler came back for the phone, thanked me profusely and then said, “I guess this just isn’t my day.” My response: “It is definitely your day.” After all, in one moment she moved from starting her trip without her phone to starting her trip with it.
