Successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultants know that to create opportunities you have to put yourself in front of them. I much prefer to mentor the CLNC consultant who is networking with all of her contacts in person or on social media than the legal nurse consultant who is sitting at home waiting for the attorney to call.
One of the highest compliments you can receive from an attorney-client is that you’ve made a complex healthcare issue seem simple. The best legal nurse consulting work product is graced with the sophistication of simplicity. When we break the complex down into the simple and understandable we do the attorney-client a service that helps her to ultimately educate the jury on the complexities of the case in a way that any non-healthcare provider can understand.
Whether it’s a national news anchor, print reporter or radio personality interviewing me or simply a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who has a prurient interest in my success, I’m often asked “Vickie, what’s NEXT?” That question has got to be one of the top 10 least favorite questions people ask me.
How do you attain what seems like an impossible legal nurse consulting goal? It’s simple: Apply persistence to the necessary tasks at hand. When you put persistence behind your goal, what formerly seemed impossible becomes an attainable reality.
We all have issues with time management. Even the most successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultant will struggle with time management skills at one point or another. It seems there’s always something or someone getting in the way of our legal nurse consulting productivity. Frequently that someone is you and that’s why one of my favorite thoughts for success is to interrupt the interrupter.
Why one person succeeds more than another is not always obvious to the rest of us. Even a successful talent like Richard Gere can’t always articulate the reasons for his own success. He’s said, “Certainly there have been better actors than me who have had no careers. Why? I don’t know.”
I was deeply saddened by the recent earthquake in Nepal. When I visited Nepal in 1999 I went in search of the astonishing Himalayan Mountains. I came away with an even more surprising and lasting gift from the Nepalese people who inhabit those mountains.
ICU nurse, attorney and a very successful legal nurse consultant combined into one Vickie adds up to a speedy, decisive personality. In the world of business, that can be a positive and sometimes a negative attribute.
The expression “action speaks louder than words” is never truer than in respect to our integrity. Every Certified Legal Nurse Consultant can talk a good game, but what happens when we’re alone, unobserved, and our integrity is tested? That’s when we find out exactly how much integrity we have. For example, when you’re on Facebook are you on the attorney’s clock or your own?
What’s expensive? That’s a question I’ve asked an RN (or two) who has expressed that starting a new career as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant is expensive.
