Despite popular belief and the laws of gravity, shit really does flow uphill, at least for entrepreneurs. Own a legal nurse consulting business and you also own responsibility for everyone associated with you – employees, subcontractors and vendors. There’s a reason you get paid the big bucks – when someone fails you, the repercussions of said failure fall on your shoulders.
Sometimes a project can seem overwhelming. You don’t know where to start or which foot to put forward first. You’re stumped, scared and going nowhere. For 33 years in my legal nurse consulting business I’ve too often made the mistake of worrying about how little I could do towards a daunting project and letting that concern stop me in my tracks.
Success Is Inside! Need I say more? When I wrote Wicked Success Is Inside Every Woman this was the most important message I wanted to convey, so I autographed every book with that thought. Thousands of autographed books later, I’m still in awe that my right hand held up to the task without any repetitive stress injury.
To be remarkable is to be noticeable, uncommon or extraordinary. Consider any person in any walk of professional life you admire and I’d wager they possess one of these characteristics. The professional you hold in the highest regard most probably possesses all three.

At the risk of sounding somewhat less than visionary, the future is the so-called “Internet of things.” More and more of the devices that support us in our daily life are becoming connected to the Internet or connected to our smartphones and then de facto connected to the Internet.
Optimism is oxygen to successful entrepreneurs. I’ve owned my legal nurse consulting business for 33 years now and you might wonder what it is that gets me up and out of bed every day. The answer is certainly not escaping my share of a healthy dose of challenges.
As a member of the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants (NACLNC) you are part of a thriving, growing and ever-changing organization. The legal nurse consulting specialty is what it is because of each of you. Legal nurse consulting is not a separate entity. You ARE legal nurse consulting. Together we are part of one organism – you could say we are each other’s harvest and each other’s business.
I shudder to think about the RN I’d be today if I hadn’t left my RN job at the hospital in 1982. At that time I was working overtime to pay the mortgage on my 1,200 square foot condominium and knew I was way too mouthy and opinionated to last another 35 years in a draconian institutional setting.
When I plan a project or event I expect the best, but plan for the worst. For example, when I fly to a CLNC Certification Seminar city I’ll usually take an early morning flight to ensure I arrive timely even if there are flight delays or cancellations. Sure, I can take the chance that everything will go perfectly and avoid getting to the airport at the crack of dawn by flying out much later in the day. But that strategy only works if everything goes perfectly, which you know if you fly, is as rare as getting good service or an in-flight meal!
