It’s the day after Thanksgiving and you’re probably still full, and possibly comatose from the tryptophan in the roasted turkey, not to mention the piles of dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, cranberry dressing, various and sundry pies and all the other stuff you only eat once a year (Oh, did I remember to mention the yeast rolls and butter?).
Time is a measurable commodity. It’s one of the few things in the world that is consistent, limited and applies to everyone equally. We all have a limited time on the planet, and while we’re here, we all get the same 24 hours each day.
Every time I teach a CLNC Certification Seminar I get to meet the most amazing registered nurses. I hear stories of personal hardships, some of which would break my heart – except for one fact. That fact is that these strong and brave women are striving to, and will, overcome anything that stands in front of them.
It’s hardwired into an RN’s DNA to want to make a difference in your job whether that job is legal nurse consulting or an RN job at a hospital.
We get out of our world not only what we put into it, but also what we expect to get. This is especially true when you consider that we have the ability to shape not only our world but, to some extent, the people we share it with.
We often wish for and work toward big goals without grasping how the achievement will impact us. That’s why Denzel Washington’s quote is an important reminder to assess the cost of the coveted reward.
I’m writing this at home while riding out Hurricane Harvey (It’s Monday). Given the events here in Texas this quote from Daryn Kagan is speaking to me today.
I know many of you think I’ve got it all together and have never known a moment’s fear. But that’s simply not true. When I interviewed with my first attorney-prospect I was terrified. I knew in theory attorneys needed nurses, but that didn’t suppress the fear.
CLNC students often preface a question with “This might be a stupid question…” and I immediately reply, “The only stupid question is the one that goes unasked.”
I am blessed to be surrounded by amazing, talented RNs who choose to become Certified Legal Nurse Consultants. You might be one of those talented RNs who is great at what you do and knows it. You might also be hesitant about whether you could be just as amazing as a legal nurse consultant.
