Vickie’s Favorite Quotes: Daryn Kagan

I’m writing this at home while riding out Hurricane Harvey (It’s Monday). Given the events here in Texas this quote from Daryn Kagan is speaking to me today.

Vickie Milazzo’s Favorite Daryn Kagan Quote About Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things

Daryn was an anchor for CNN in Atlanta when we first met and she interviewed me. Several years passed and the next time I saw Daryn was in a dark Times Square during the Northeast Blackout of 2003. We had a chance to talk between her live on-the-air reporting and both of us remarked on how calmly and responsibly the New Yorkers were responding to the blackout.

Back to Houston. As I watch TV broadcasts of water rescues by first responders and civilians who have responded with personal boats and rafts to venture into flood waters and risk their lives to help total strangers, I recall Daryn’s words, “Bad things do happen in the world, like war, natural disasters, disease. But out of those situations always arise stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.” This is exactly what we’re witnessing this week – the sights and stories of ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Those impacted by Harvey will take a long time to recover. There are countless stories of tragedies – life and property lost and people’s lives changed. There are also remarkable stories of the first responders, civilians, volunteers, nurses, medical personnel and the TV crews who have selflessly guided the city and surrounding areas through this crisis.

I’m in gratitude to all who have supported and helped Texas and pray that all affected will be blessed by the light of God and the continued kindness of others.

P.S. Comment here to share your stories of ordinary people you know who have done extraordinary things.
