We often wish for and work toward big goals without grasping how the achievement will impact us. That’s why Denzel Washington’s quote is an important reminder to assess the cost of the coveted reward.
When Denzel said, “You pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too.” I’m sure he was referring to the cost of celebrity – time away from family, paparazzi and all the various demands on his time. Denzel’s quote applies to Certified Legal Nurse Consultants as much as it does to Hollywood actors.
I know Certified Legal Nurse Consultants who have coveted and worked towards a mass tort case for months – to then have to scramble to hire more than 10 CLNC® subcontractors to keep up with the project. And then they didn’t even consider the challenge of managing those same legal nurse consultant subcontractors. I’ve seen other Certified Legal Nurse Consultants who have built huge businesses (more than $1 million) and then had to face the reality of what managing such a success looks like.
When you pray for success (rain), know that you’ll be dealing with all the ancillary (and sometimes unexpected) side-effects (mud or worse) along the way. Playing in the mud won’t be as much fun at your age as it was when you were five, but remember, it still washes off easily. Go ahead and pray for the rain.
