This morning I struggled to get my body to the gym and easily had 10 reasons why I needed to skip my workout and stay in bed. Almost all of the reasons related to the work piled up on my credenza and some to the comfort of my pillow.
I’m often in awe of, and humbled by, the nursing knowledge and expertise of the RNs who come through the CLNC® Certification Program. I joke with Tom that if I ever have a medical crisis I hope it’s in a roomful of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.
Certified Legal Nurse Consulting students and RNs often confuse my enthusiasm for legal nurse consulting as “Vickie’s had an easy life.” or “Vickie makes becoming a legal nurse consultant look easy.”
So often I’ll hear someone ask, “Why is that woman successful? I’m just as talented, skilled and inventive as she is, so why not me?” There’s a pretty simple reason why, but it’s not one that most people are comfortable with.
I was talking to a legal nurse consultant about her business plan. She carefully outlined her 90-day marketing plan which included contacting a list of attorney-prospects she obtained from networking and exhibiting at a legal conference.
With Independence Day this week we’ve all had an opportunity to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. While we’re all free, we don’t all enjoy the same freedoms. Here’s a thought for success: “Success equals more freedom.”
I was blessed to have parents who were very open. I could talk to them about pretty much any subject and not feel weird or uncomfortable. We talked about sex, religion and politics and didn’t kill each other over the different opinions we held steadfast to.
My husband Tom likes to joke (or not) that I’m like the White Queen (in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland) who declared “Why, sometimes I’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.”
Comfort can be a good thing, but once you start to lose the edge of thriving in the realm of uncomfortable it’s hard to get that edge back.
Our thoughts are powerful and intimate companions. As Norman Vincent Peale says “Change your thoughts and you change your world.”
