Vickie Milazzo's Thoughts for Success

Thoughts for Success: My Motto Is: Nurses CAN Do Anything, NOT Nurses Should Do Everything

RNs are tycoons of commitment. The average RN has more complex responsibilities than the crew of NASA’s mission control, an air traffic controller and the President of the United States combined, and we handle every one of them.

Thoughts for Success: My Motto Is: Nurses CAN Do Anything, NOT Nurses Should Do Everything

By nature, nurses are giving and nurturing, ready to engage the Devil himself when patients and loved ones are at risk. And this natural edge is a mighty force when we engage any challenge, such as starting a legal nurse consulting business.

In preparation for my Consultant 2.0 event with Stedman Graham, one Certified Legal Nurse Consultant shared her goal of creating a successful legal nurse consulting business – all while being heavily involved in childhood abuse education and legislation, establishing a non-profit organization, assisting her daughter with caring for four grandchildren, picking up a fifth grandchild from school every day, cooking, cleaning the house and managing an autoimmune condition.

I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted just hearing about this CLNC® consultant’s commitments. How does one possibly juggle professional goals, family demands and society’s expectations and still have a successful CLNC career without going insane? That’s the million-dollar question. My motto is: Nurses CAN do anything, NOT nurses should do everything!

Your opportunities are boundless. Nurses can handle a lot, and when we’re not careful we find ourselves doggedly committing our energy to every person or situation that demands our time. Everything becomes a priority except us.

Before long we have no energy left and forgot why we committed in the first place. We become victims of “one day, some day, I’ll get around to living my dreams, and in the meantime I’ll help everyone else live theirs.” Our goals, dreams and desires fall by the wayside.

If you want to be a successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultant choose your commitments carefully. Passionately believing in the path you’re on helps you narrow your commitments. By making judicious choices, you engage your day, your week and all the minutes that make up your life in pursuit of commitments that reflect the fire of your vision.

Yes, we can have outside commitments, but when we allow them to run roughshod over our own goals, we’ll go nowhere that we choose and everywhere else, except toward the commitments that we desire the most.

Success Is Yours!
