Vickie and I have a friend who’s an Android® phone user. She’s inordinately proud of the fact that she can “trace” a unique pattern on the surface of her phone as her password or security key. She thinks this is much more secure than my 4-digit iPhone® combination number. But guess what, it’s not!
The one case I will always remember and that was special to me as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant was a neonatal case involving an undiagnosed congenital malformation requiring surgical intervention on a term infant in the newborn nursery. From the moment my attorney-client contacted me, I was instantly passionate about the case.
I like to create, edit and view my Word documents at “Page Width.” For those Certified Legal Nurse Consultants who haven’t found that setting, you simply click on the “View” tab, then “Zoom” and then onto the button next to “Page Width.” That makes a document big enough to see, like this:
We all know the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence:

Passwords are a part of the Internet. Every CLNC consultant has to enter a password to use any useful website on the Internet – especially legal nurse consulting research, banking, shopping and social media. Many of those websites have a way of recovering or resetting a lost password.

Discuss Travel Expenses in Advance – If you’re traveling with an attorney-client or at his request as a CLNC consultant you should always discuss your travel expenses (e.g., airfare, meals, hotel and cancellation/change fees) and consulting fees in advance. You don’t want any surprises at billing time that may undermine the trust or good-will you have built up with that attorney.
It’s rare to find a home that has less than one computer. It seems like every Certified Legal Nurse Consultant’s household has a multiplicity of devices – laptops, desktops, smartphones and tablets. All are computers and, ignoring the wireless printing needs of the smartphones and tablets, need Internet and printer access. The simplest way to achieve this is through a home wired or wireless network.
My most memorable case was the very first one. For this, I received a 4 ft. tall stack of medical records which chronicled the final year of the patient’s life. The attorney contacted me after he had already determined the issues. That was too bad because, while the plaintiff was suing an acute rehabilitation unit within the hospital for the death of her husband, some of the problems were also incurred in the general hospital. An expanded focus might have addressed those issues.
