Successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultants know that to create opportunities you have to put yourself in front of them. I much prefer to mentor the CLNC consultant who is networking with all of her contacts in person or on social media than the legal nurse consultant who is sitting at home waiting for the attorney to call.
This is one Tech Tip that practically writes itself. Whether or not a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant should upgrade to Windows 10 when it comes out this fall depends on where you are now. I’m not talking about whether you’re in Poughkeepsie, Pittsburgh or Port Huron – what I mean is what version of Windows is running now on the computer you use in your legal nurse consulting business.
It seems like it was just yesterday that we were cruising the Southern Caribbean. Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Aruba and Curacao are now memories (some foggy, some distinct). I’m so excited to announce that for the 2017 National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants Conference we’ll spend 7 nights cruising the Eastern Caribbean on one of Royal Caribbean’s newest and largest ships, the Harmony of the Seas. It’s so new it won’t even hit the high seas until 2016 – so we’ll be some of the first and finest passengers aboard!
One of the highest compliments you can receive from an attorney-client is that you’ve made a complex healthcare issue seem simple. The best legal nurse consulting work product is graced with the sophistication of simplicity. When we break the complex down into the simple and understandable we do the attorney-client a service that helps her to ultimately educate the jury on the complexities of the case in a way that any non-healthcare provider can understand.
We all know that the Internet is a lawless place with dangers abounding in every corner and neighborhoods no self-respecting Certified Legal Nurse Consultant should ever go into. Unfortunately the Internet will probably never be a completely safe and secure place. Webizens will always include virus-writers, data thieves, hackers and worse.
Registered nurses working RN hospital jobs know that weekends and holidays are terrible times to be admitted to a hospital – whether for a life-threatening condition or simply for observation.
I realized the direction the nursing profession was going and its misalignment with my own nursing ethics. Compromises were being made at the expense of patient safety. My integrity prevented me from accepting those compromises. Seeing that I could no longer be safely effective at the bedside, I could not in good conscience continue to support the mindset and practices being forced upon me.
Whether it’s a national news anchor, print reporter or radio personality interviewing me or simply a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who has a prurient interest in my success, I’m often asked “Vickie, what’s NEXT?” That question has got to be one of the top 10 least favorite questions people ask me.
At the CLNC Certification Seminar while discussing Microsoft® Word with a group of future Certified Legal Nurse Consultants, the conversation came around to highlighting and deleting (or moving) a sentence or paragraph in a document such as a legal nurse consulting case report. I asked the group how they cut and pasted the text and received the expected answer. “I take my mouse in hand, highlight the text and then click on the Scissors icon and then the Paste icon.”
Experienced Certified Legal Nurse Consultants know that a patient’s choice of surgeon can significantly increase the odds of a better surgical outcome. But when a patient is about to undergo a high-risk surgical procedure, they might not be considering another important variable – the “predicted survival” estimate for the procedure at the particular treating facility.
