Depending upon the age of your Microsoft Word software, your default document font is probably Calibri with an 11-point font size. Calibri is a sans-serif font, meaning it doesn’t have serifs like everybody’s old favorite font, Times New Roman.

I’m grateful that I left my hospital job in 1983 to pursue my legal nurse consulting business full time. After reading the heart wrenching stories and experiences of stressed out RNs from LegalNurse.com’s National Nurses’ Stress Survey and the deplorable, dare I say Dickensian, conditions they suffer in healthcare facilities, I shudder at the thought of who I would have become if I had chosen to stay put in the hospital, so many years ago.
As a child, I had Lyme Disease, then in 2004, I was bitten by another tick. Terrible timing, since I’d just gotten married. My symptoms were across the chart, from severe fatigue to periodic paralysis on one side of my body. My husband couldn’t handle his wife not walking, not being perfect, so he left, and we divorced. A couple of years later, I made it to an Iron Man finish line, so I guess the joke’s on him.
I was on a tear this week, tearing my hair out trying to insert a landscape-oriented page into a portrait-oriented document. Finally, after hours of frustration and a little practice, I discovered an easy way to do it. It involves giving yourself a break – a section break that is!
If you walked into my office you’d think I didn’t have much work to do. But trust me, I haven’t always been that organized. Years ago I had to hire an outside consultant to come in and help me figure out what was important and what was ready for the landfill. It turned out to be a more monumental task than I expected and taught me a lesson that lasted a lifetime.

Being at the American Association for Justice Annual Convention this week has been a great reminder that everything in business is marketing and marketing for CLNC consultants means going where the attorneys go.
As a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant I consult and assist acute general inpatient rehabilitation facilities (IRFs) with Medicare Part A appeals. It is somewhat different from working on medical malpractice or personal injury cases. Although I do work with the corporate facility attorneys, once a case escalates it goes to the level of an administrative law judge (ALJ) hearing.
