Tom’s Tech Tip: Landscape and Portrait Together for the First Time (In a Legal Nurse Consulting Report)

I was on a tear this week, tearing my hair out trying to insert a landscape-oriented page into a portrait-oriented document. Finally, after hours of frustration and a little practice, I discovered an easy way to do it. It involves giving yourself a break – a section break that is!

In the report you’re writing as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant for your favorite attorney-client, you simply navigate to the page where you want your landscape-oriented table or chart to appear. Then go to Page Layout, then Breaks and insert a Section Break.

Next, move into the next/new page that you’ve created and change the orientation to landscape (Page Layout, Orientation, Landscape). Insert your table, chart, image or case analysis/timeline. When you’re ready to change back to portrait orientation, repeat the process by inserting another section break at the point you want to switch orientation and then change the orientation back to portrait for the remaining pages.

The good news is that you can do this as often as you like in your Word® document and wherever you’ve selected your page numbers to be located (Say, bottom center) they’ll stay there throughout the document no matter the orientation.

Just remember when you’re done with the report to give yourself a real break.

Keep on Techin’,

Tom

  1. For the past several weeks I have been working on my first case! Incredibly, I had this dilemma…thank you for posting this. I never did figure out how to do this so I ended up making my landscaped pages a separate document!

This blog is always timely and helpful…THANK YOU!

I will know for next time.
