Tom’s Tech Tip: Certified Legal Nurse Consultants – Reset Your Default Font in Word

Depending upon the age of your Microsoft® Word software, your default document font is probably Calibri with an 11-point font size. Calibri is a sans-serif font, meaning it doesn’t have serifs like everybody’s old favorite font, Times New Roman.

Sans serif fonts can be hard to read, so a courteous Certified Legal Nurse Consultant may wish to write reports for attorney-clients using Times New Roman rather than Calibri. You may even want to increase the size of that font to something readable, such as a 12-point font size.

Instead of changing the font and size each time you start a new document, you can simply change Word’s default font to one of your choice. How? Here’s how. Open the Font menu either by clicking on it or Ctrl-Shift-Ft to display the Font menu.

Select the font you wish to use as your default font and the size, then click on, wait for it, the Set As Default button. You’re not done yet though. That action will open up another box, which will ask you whether you want to reset the font for the current document or all future documents.

If you’re certain you want to do this, check the radio button next to All documents based on the Normal.dotm template? and click OK. Once you’ve done that, all your new Word documents will automatically start in the new font (until you change it again).

Keep on Techin’,

Tom
