CLNC® Success Story: Just 2 Months After I Became a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant I Landed My First Big Client
For the first two months, nothing was happening. What was I doing wrong?

I keep telling Vickie that UPS means more than the hunky guy that delivers packages to the Institute. Sure UPS stands for United Parcel Service and that’s what springs to most people’s minds when they hear it. But to a techie, UPS is more than just another way to get cool stuff delivered to your home or office. It’s what protects your computer and other equipment from electrical power surges and it protects your data from accidental loss.
I found myself standing in the gas chamber at Auschwitz contemplating how I arrived there. My father’s family is Sicilian – 100%. Picture a 13-year-old boy holding his uncle’s hand, gazing at the Statue of Liberty from the deck of a passenger liner in the early 1900s and that’s Papa Milazzo, my grandfather. My family name, Milazzo, comes from a village in Sicily. My grandparents knew each other as children before leaving Sicily and lucky, against all odds, managed to hook up and marry in the U.S.
Sometimes we really need business advice, but even when that advice is readily available we don’t take it. For this blog I asked the CLNC Pros to share the “best advice they never took” but wish they had.
After working in a large clinic for 22 years, I retired. I was 48, my life was changing, my workplace was changing and I qualified for early retirement, so I took it. My family was growing up, and I began to wonder, “What am I going to do now?” Then I found LegalNurse.com’s LegalNurse.com website and became intrigued. I knew I had the experience as a nurse to become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant – I decided to take the CLNC Certification Seminar. Vickie’s CLNC Certification Program is the key to my CLNC success.
In 1982 nurses weren’t starting businesses in droves. And the term legal nurse consultant didn’t yet exist. What possibly made me think I could do something no other nurse had done before? That’s Promise 5 – believing as a nurse I really could do anything. Believing you can do it is 90 percent of the win.
All great athletes and performers practice every day. Even after they achieve a level of success, they continue to practice and take instruction from their coaches, learning new ways to reach higher levels. They are lifetime students.
When I decided to start my own business as a legal nurse consultant in 1982 I had a full time nursing job at the hospital, plus I was having to work a part-time job to pay my mortgage. How could I possibly realize my dream of starting a business? Through Promise 3. No matter how tired I was at the end of the day I would take at least one action step a day toward my legal nurse consulting business.
Legal nurse consulting may not be for you, but if you decide it is, then you owe it to yourself to go for it or reject it outright. Don’t leave the dream dangling with that one day someday I’ll get around to it attitude.
We all know when we discover something we feel passionate about. We feel amazingly energetic. Desire is energy. Have you ever experienced a time when desire overcame all physical, emotional and intellectual barriers? Like a child waking up on Christmas morning, you spring alert full speed ahead. Why can’t we experience that passion – that vitality and energy – not only on Christmas but every day? Believe me, you can. When you wake up every day to a life and career that are your heart and soul, a life and career you’re passionate about, you experience maximum joy.
