Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Inauguration Day

Important events in DC are occupying my attention today. If you want, you can click over to CNN.com, watch the inauguration coverage and play “Where’s Waldo?” or rather “Where’s Tom?” Or, you can just read last week’s tips and try to find me online! Running on Empty

About an hour from when the photo below was taken, just a block from my home, the street was filled with runners from the Houston Marathon. Over 23,000 participants showed up to run. Some finished in just over two hours while others were still running (or had dropped out) when the six-hour time limit expired.

“Certified Legal Nurse Consulting Is Recession Proof. I’m Busier Than Ever!” – An Interview with Dale Barnes – Part 3

How has your income level changed in this economy?

Dale: Vickie, I’m proud to say that last year I was a little ahead with my legal nurse consulting business compared to the prior year – which is saying something when so many other types of businesses experienced a downturn. I’m going to be away for most of January, on a trip to East Africa. People are amazed that I can afford to leave my business during this economy.

“Certified Legal Nurse Consulting Is Recession Proof. I’m Busier Than Ever!” – An Interview with Dale Barnes – Part 2

Obstacles have to be overcome in every economy. What obstacles are you facing now?

Dale: Vickie, my biggest obstacle is time. Particularly trying to squeeze in time to continue marketing every month. I’ve been a CLNC® consultant for 9½ years, so I don’t have to market at the same level I did in the beginning, but I know that being busy is no justification for not marketing. You taught me to always keep marketing to assure the phone is ringing.

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: XP, Vista or Windows 7?

Windows® Vista never quite caught on in the corporate setting. XP has continued to rule the corporate roost. Home and small business users, like legal nurse consultants, however, have adopted a mix of XP and different versions of Vista that were foisted on them by retailers when they bought new computers. If you’re still running XP and haven’t yet upgraded to Vista, should you? Or should you wait and go directly to the next version of Windows®, currently known as Windows® 7?

We posted the 2009 NACLNC Conference opening video on YouTube…and it’s a RIOT!

My designers turned me into an animated cartoon character getting ready for, and going to the NACLNC Conference.

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Free-Range Wireless

Let’s face it. Connectivity is king. The more we complain about getting away from things, the more we need to be connected whenever we get away. BlackBerries® and iPhones® have made being on the road a little more bearable. But we do need more than just email when we’re out of the office. Sure, those lucky legal nurse consultants who are iPhone users can surf the web, watch YouTube and listen to music, but for the legal nurse consulting “crackberry” users out there – we need the Internet and we need it fast!

Customer Service Rants and Raves

I just got home from the Great Christmas Migration of 2008. Tom and I are bicoastal. His family is in Pennsylvania and mine is in San Diego. Both demand our presence (and presents) at Christmas. This gives us plenty of chances to enjoy the fun of air travel and to meet interesting and helpful people along the way. This year instead of emulating the executives from the auto industry we decided to forgo taking the VMI company jet (Southwest, in our case), and instead flew our various journeys on the same mainstream airline.
