At our CLNC Certification Seminar I encountered a young nurse who entered nursing because, first and foremost, she wanted to become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant!
I have a few RN friends on social media who focus on personal social networking, but haven’t yet used social media to grow their legal nurse consulting business and expand their network of CLNC subcontractors. Social media is indeed taking over the world, which makes it even more important that Certified Legal Nurse Consultants are in the social media conversation. That excitement might not have lasted for 20 or 40 years, but you can still recall it, can’t you? A study published in the Journal of Nursing Economics (JNE) suggests the excitement for newly licensed registered nurses (NLRNs) about their RN job is at an all-time low.

For 33 years I’ve been in the legal nurse consulting business. From that business I’ve had all kinds of side businesses along the way. There are days I’ve played nurse, doctor, attorney, mediator, guidance counselor and even psychiatrist.
Right after my Opening speech at the 2015 National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants Conference, one of the CLNC® consultants came up to me and excitedly said, “Vickie I’m ready! I am ready to be successful as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant!” My question back to her was, “Are you ready to do what it’s going to take to be successful?”
I’ve never met a Broadway play I didn’t like (except maybe one or two by Harold Pinter) and any time I’m in New York City I cram in as many Broadway shows as I can. Tom and I love it all – drama (Chekov’s “The Seagull” with the unexpected bonus of sitting right behind Keanu Reeves), outlandish musicals (“Kinky Boots”) and dance performances (“Alvin Ailey”). But as much as I love theater I also love roaming the streets of New York City.
Entrepreneurs are inventors, sometimes inventing an entire business from a single idea. To be inventive in the inventing process, both entrepreneurs and inventors alike often need to break established rules. Many Certified Legal Nurse Consultants have enabled the passcode lock to keep spying eyes from looking at the contents of their iPhones and iPads®. Many more CLNC® consultants have followed my advice and also enabled the “Find My iPhone” feature on their iPhones and iPads. That handy feature allows you to locate, within reason, a device that’s gone walkabout or has been left behind in a car, bar, plane, train or office – so long as the missing device is turned on and connected to the Internet.
