Goal Setting Time for 3 Types of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

It’s only five days into 2015 and you undoubtedly already know where you stand on goals for your CLNC® business. When it comes to goal setting and achieving New Year’s goals I’ve mentored three types of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.

  1. The Star Pupil. If you’re right on track with your goals you are a star indeed, congratulations! No need to bother reading the rest of this blog – you can just get back to work.
  2. The Recidivist. (I say this politely 🙂 ) If you’re the legal nurse consultant who diligently writes business goals every year and every year diligently quits on them, I suggest you read on.
  3. The Clueless. If you’re the CLNC consultant who says, “What goals? I’m too busy working cases to worry about them.” Or worse yet says, “I don’t bother, goals have never worked for me.” I recommend you punch out of that urgent case or get out of that state of malaise and read this blog in its entirety.

So why do some legal nurse consultants struggle with goal setting? I believe the struggle is based on the fact that goals created respond to a moment in time – a moment that may no longer be relevant to you or your CLNC business. Goals often don’t work because life and business aren’t static. To avoid the terror associated with goal setting, go ahead and define 2015 goals and then make a pact with yourself that the goals are dynamic and subject to change in future moments.

Once you create dynamic goals check in weekly or monthly to see how you’re doing and where you need to go next. Smart Certified Legal Nurse Consultants know when to abandon an old goal and create a new, more responsive one.

Dynamic goals are a path through the forest and out of the woods for any overwhelmed business owner. Static goals can quickly become a path into the maze. Which goal-setting path are you on?

  1. Thanks for the reminder post. I have started my new year busy and realized you are right, Vickie. I stopped working on a case and wrote up my 2015 goals. It was unbelievably easy to do since I integrated the interventions into my statements for a clear trail-blazing path to success.
