Happy Thanksgiving to All Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

Thanksgiving is about taking one day to give thanks for all that we have now, all that we have had in the past and all the possibilities we have in the future. Some of us are most thankful for our family and friends, our health, the people we work with and the freedom to be who and what we choose.

Do You Dwell in Possibility or Impossibility as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant?

In the VIP Business Development Luncheon at the CLNC 6-Day Certification Seminar a student, Carol, shared that her cousin said to her “How can you become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant when you’re just a pediatric nurse?” The group booed the cousin who wasn’t there, affirming that one should never pay attention to a negative naysayer. That family member who knew nothing about legal nurse consulting was hardly qualified to dispense advice on whether Carol can or cannot succeed. But Carol was almost ready to buy into that dream-crusher’s bad and mean-spirited advice.

CLNC® Success Story: An Attorney Recommended I Fly Cross-Country to Attain My CLNC® Certification and I’m Glad He Did

Jennifer Craigmyle, RN, CLNC shares how, on an attorney’s recommendation, she flew from California to Georgia, to become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. The attorney who recommended that she get certified as a CLNC consultant also gave her two cases as soon as she returned home from the CLNC 6-Day Certification Seminar. Jennifer shows yet another example of how attorneys are recommending the CLNC Certification and rewarding nurses for obtaining it!

If You Feel Invisible – Read This!

I recently mentored a CLNC student, Joanne, who shared that she was terrified of contacting and interviewing with attorneys. A few probing questions got to the heart of the fear. “I’ve spent 30 years being invisible at the hospital with no one listening to me or respecting what I have to say about patients. Now I’m supposed to walk into an attorney’s office and suddenly feel good about selling myself.”

On the Road Again…

I’m about to hit the road again for the fall season of CLNC 6-Day Certification Seminars. Even though I must confess when I’m at home I enjoy my personal “Tower of Whipped Cream Terror” I find that when I’m at home it’s easier to maintain my healthy habits than when I’m on the road.

Tom’s Tech Tips

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Here’s the Keys to Your Keys!

Computers crash and computers burn. Any Certified Legal Nurse Consultant will agree that sometimes you receive plenty of warning and other times you don’t. The last time I had to “replace” a laptop I had more than enough warning – the old laptop started failing but ran somewhat intermittently. Not wanting to buy a new copy of Microsoft® Office, I planned to reinstall Office onto the replacement computer. The problem was that I needed the software key – a multi, multi digit number that helps the boys in Redmond make sure that only legit copies of software are installed. The other problem was that I didn’t have the original hard case with the key sticker, because I had copied the installation disk to one of our servers to aid with software distribution. There wasn’t a key to be found.

Savvy Travelers Forget Spontaneity – Unless They’re 22

I recently met a 22-year-old woman who traveled with a friend to West Africa for several months with no plans and even less money. The ground (and I’m not talking camping here) substituted for a hotel room, street food for restaurant cuisine and a rickety second-hand motorcycle for luxury transportation. She loved every minute of the stripped-down trip and undoubtedly it will be the memory of a lifetime.

Wine and Dine with Your Attorney-Clients

Attorneys love only two things more than winning a big case – the celebratory eating and drinking that comes afterwards. Whether you’re in the early, middle or trial stage of a case, if your attorney-client offers to take you to lunch or dinner, go! It’s a great chance to build a rapport and get to know the attorney better.

What Did You Do Today?

The desire to succeed in anything – whether it’s losing 10 lbs or growing a CLNC® business – is important to success. After all, every success story begins with a dream, desire or vision. But even more important than the dream is the will to prepare to succeed.
