Most Certified Legal Nurse Consultants consult with attorneys behind the scenes and never testify on a single case. Despite the fact that you can build a very successful CLNC business without serving as an expert witness, I always encourage CLNC students to be open to this amazing and challenging experience.
There I was nearly nine years ago, suffering from what I now refer to as “professional bradycardia.” I signed up for LegalNurse.com’s CLNC Certification Seminar and had my breath taken away! Vickie asked me to share a few experiences as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant that have taken my breath away. I have been fortunate to have experienced quite a few “breathless” moments in my CLNC business.
You have the strength of genius. You save lives every day. Is there anything more intelligent than that? Saving lives requires a special kind of genius. Move over, Einstein. Let a nurse handle it.
Every year we adopt a new business theme at LegalNurse.com. Some previous examples are “Let It Go” and “Move Like a Maverick.” All year long we have a lot of fun with the theme, but more important we use the theme to challenge how we think and how we do business. The staff especially enjoys reminding me of the theme to persuade me of their position on issues. I think “Let it Go” was my staff’s all-time favorite and quickly became the catch-phrase any time something was a little bit off or I found a mistake or error. I’m ready to let that theme go!
As I embarked on my new career as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, I received a case from an attorney and I wanted to do the best job ever. So I reviewed the records over and over until I knew those records like the back of my hand.
To paraphrase Seth Godin, there’s only one thing you have to do to be “remarkable” and that’s actually, “to be remarkable.” He has also suggested that a critic, referred to as a troll, can interfere with your remarkability. My concept of a troll is just the opposite – a troll is a pretender selling nothing more than pretense.
The CLNC Pros share how they overcame their deepest fears about becoming Certified Legal Nurse Consultants. While each CLNC consultant’s story is different, the overwhelming message from all is that it’s okay to feel the fear but success only comes by fully embracing it. I personally love what Eleanor Roosevelt said, “Do the thing you cannot. You must.”
