Nothing reduces stress more than a great vacation – at least once you get over the stress of traveling. Getting off the grid is never easy. Traditionally, no matter how busy I am, I make it my goal at least once a year to get far away, into something so different that it forces me out of my regular stress-relief routine into one that entirely disconnects me from my legal nurse consulting business and life’s routine challenges.
One of my favorites was gorilla trekking in Rwanda. That one hour and ten minutes observing endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat restored me to my very core and was an experience that will stay with me for the rest of my life.
Nelson Mandela was so right when he said, “There is nothing like returning to a place that remains unchanged to find the ways in which you yourself have altered.” That’s exactly why I went gorilla trekking a second time. Recognizing the stressors bearing down on you, making yourself a priority and finding a way to get away during the COVID-19 pandemic, is a nice goal, but not necessarily achievable. Or is it?
Try taking frequent virtual vacations. My 88-year-old second mom, Blanche vacations in her tub with candles, bath oil, her favorite music and a glass of wine. Maybe you’d prefer to lounge in your backyard hammock, sit by the pool or a lake at a nearby park. Perhaps your favorite is to curl up in bed with a deliciously light book. You can get away in your mind, if not on a plane, train or automobile.
Indulging in a vacation – real or virtual is a necessity (not a luxury) for all registered nurses. And if you’re already a successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultant you’ll enjoy the ride of your CLNC® success a whole lot more. Even in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, you can take time to taste the fruits of freedom that you work so hard to attain.
Success Is Yours,
