Consultant or Entrepreneur – You Choose

One of the most pivotal days in the beginning of my legal nurse consulting business was recognizing that my business could be bigger than me. I had to choose between being a consultant or being an entrepreneur. The consultant’s life is an easy life. You get paid big bucks to communicate your expertise to attorneys. You can consult as little or as much as you want. Life is good!

In contrast, an entrepreneur has to leverage the time, talents and energy of others in order to realize a bigger vision for the CLNC® business. I would not be where I am today if it were not for my CLNC subcontractors with experience from every nursing specialty imaginable and the talented staff here at LegalNurse.com.

I’ve been managing CLNC subcontractors and employees for 32 years and managing people never gets easier. In fact, it’s the most challenging part of my business. But it’s worth the effort because it allows you to grow something bigger and more versatile than just yourself.

Will some people fail you despite the incredible opportunities you give them? Yes. I know one Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who retreated back into the role of solo consultant and is happier than when she was managing (or herding) a team of subcontractors. I know another CLNC consultant who wants to create a huge CLNC business and is willing to do whatever it takes to make that happen.

You get to decide, consultant or entrepreneur. Whatever you decide is obviously right for you. Just be realistic about the implications of your choice.

I’m Just Sayin’

P.S. Comment and share your choice.

  1. What a great coincidence – it was my own CPA that gave me my first words of wisdom. Having access to the NACLNC® Directory of other Certified Legal Nurse Consultants and Vickie’s guidance makes one feel less of an island. Tapping into someone else’s knowledge is not a sign of weakness, it is just good business. Thank you, Vickie.

  2. I would not be able to do this alone. I want to grow my CLNC® business and I have an entrepreneur attitude and mindset. However I do not know everything. I recently used the video resource in the NACLNC® Directory, “How Top Certified Legal Nurse Consultants Win Clients” by Evie. She has a lot of good marketing ideas. I am now doing another promotional screening discount and sending to attorneys I have already contacted with my intro package. I also use my mentoring option a lot.
