Vickie,
How important is a website to the success of my CLNC® business?
Laura I., RN, CLNC
Hi Laura,
Very important, but not for the reason most Certified Legal Nurse Consultants think. When you send a brochure or call an attorney-prospect, the attorney is likely to Google® you before taking your call or calling you back. Your website is a strong validation tool – serving as proof to that attorney-prospect that you are indeed in business.
One mistake I see legal nurse consultants make is expecting too much from a website; i.e., expecting the website to serve as a sales machine.
The only way your CLNC website will function as a sales machine is if you are willing to spend money for paid search. When you consider that there are stronger and cheaper marketing strategies such as networking, referral and exhibiting at legal conferences, pouring money into paid search is a poor use of your financial resources.
The good news – knowing your website is more of a validation tool than a sales tool allows you to keep it simple. All you need is 3-5 pages. Include your USP, a detailed description of what you can do for attorneys, your CLNC services and your contact information.
If you’re planning on working as an expert witness you may not want to have a website. In that case, simply list yourself on LinkedIn and be sure your Facebook® page is either completely professional or the security settings don’t allow parties other than your “friends” to see your content. The more places you show up in a search the better, so long as those results are helpful and professional.
The next time an attorney searches for you, they’ll find a professional Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, not just a nurse.

P.S. Comment here and share your thoughts on having a website.
I learned that by having a website, one attorney approved me for a case because he liked to see what his nurse consultants looked like and my picture is included on my website.
