Certified Legal Nurse Consultants: It’s the Quality, Not the Quantity of Your Work Product That Counts

I mentored a new legal nurse consultant who was seeking marketing advice. Her real issue, however, was not marketing. She had five attorney-clients, none of whom called her back for a second case.

My response: “You don’t need marketing advice. You obviously know how to market or you wouldn’t have gotten five cases from five different attorneys. What you need is to give the attorneys a compelling reason to call you back. And that compelling reason can only be the quality of your work product.”

With her permission I did a bit of digging into her reports and found the real issue. She was doing a nice job of summarizing the medical records, but the analysis was weak. Advice for all Certified Legal Nurse Consultants: Before you consult on your next case, go back, study the Core Curriculum for Legal Nurse Consulting® textbook and the sample reports. Before you submit your report, study the Core one more time.

I always say your work product is your best marketing strategy of all. When you’ve got five attorney-clients for your CLNC® business you owe it to yourself (and the attorneys) to analyze the legal cases the right way.

I’m Just Sayin’

P.S. Comment and share how you ensure the attorney comes back for seconds.

  1. I have to agree, keep what you have obtained and ensure quality of your work product. When working on a case, I would have been lost without the Core Curriculum for Legal Nurse Consulting® textbook, on-going training and the medical-related case reports.

Human nature of trying not to impose on current attorney-clients does not offer a solid foundation for success in the CLNC® consulting business. Developing a business relationship with attorneys takes courage and assertiveness.

  2. Referring back to the Core Curriculum for Legal Nurse Consulting® textbook is without question. It needs to be done to ensure success. Vickie has discussed, taught, encouraged and demonstrated every aspect of legal nurse consulting, so with all the tools at our fingertips, why would we not continue to use them??
