This Gift is Free for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

I was getting off an airplane yesterday and saw that a woman had left her cell phone in her seat. I picked it up and asked the flight attendant to stop the woman who was just leaving the aircraft. The traveler came back for the phone, thanked me profusely and then said, “I guess this just isn’t my day.” My response: “It is definitely your day.” After all, in one moment she moved from starting her trip without her phone to starting her trip with it.

Perspective is an interesting phenomenon and we’ve all got it. Sometimes that perspective keeps us from missing, or misinterpreting the moment that we’re in. The moment that we’re in never happens twice – each one is unique and each one is open to the interpretation we impose on it. We can choose to be happy and celebrate that we have our phone or we can choose to be miserable that we almost lost our phone.

When I was in Bhutan standing atop the Chelela Pass I was freezing cold, I was short of breath due to the altitude and the wind threatened to blow me off the mountainside. Instead of experiencing discomfort, I took joy in the moment – I was surrounded by prayer flags sending a blessing with each noisy flap, I could see across the Haa Valley into Tibet and I knew that I’d never return to that spot and that moment ever again.

This is the season to be happy and that’s a perspective I will be embracing even more of in 2014, not just during this holiday season but in each and every moment – even those moments when it’s harder than others.

The gift of happiness just might be my favorite gift this year, and best of all – it’s free. Take a moment to be happy and take it now. What moment do you choose to be in?

I’m Just Askin’

P.S. Comment and share what keeps you in each moment.

  1. Vickie: I love this story. I think a lot of people live on the negative edge of life and miss those moments you described in the positive light of things.
What keeps me in each moment is appreciating that fact that I am alive and well. I have just learned today from my physician that I have Meniere’s disease and the symptoms were not diabetes, stroke, or heart attack. How we perceive things in life has a lot to do with happiness. I live with my cup half full, not half empty!
