All Certified Legal Nurse Consultants and techie-types like the idea of Internet everywhere, but unfortunately it’s really not – yet. Moving around the city of Houston, the country and the world I’m often reminded, sometimes brutally, that when you need the Internet the most, you’re the least likely to find it.
Imagine needing to email your office, an attorney-client or download an important document for your CLNC® business, only to find out that there’s no guest Internet access (or any access) available. I was recently called for jury duty. The Harris County District Jury Assembly Room has wireless access for all prospective jurors – but it gets bogged down pretty quickly, and once you get shuffled out of the Assembly Room your access ends.
But, being smarter than the average bear, I’ve learned my lesson from all the other times spent in endless waiting rooms, sitting rooms, airports, bus stations and on trips when I’ve missed the Internet bus. Now, I carry a Verizon wireless USB modem that allows me to get online from just about anywhere. It’s slim, slips in my pocket and gets me on the information superhighway when I’d otherwise be stuck on the off ramp.
For those rare times that I want to share my Internet with Vickie or when I need to attach an iPad® or some other device that doesn’t have cellular access I also have a Verizon Jetpack® 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot MiFi®. This is smaller than a pack of cigarettes and travels in the side pocket of my computer case.
I’ve used my both my modem and my hotspot on the airplane (while at the gate), during bus transfers, once when my home Internet access went offline after a squirrel ate through a phone cable (really) and, even more importantly, to stay in touch with the LegalNurse.com office during power failures.
I’m not necessarily recommending Verizon, but I do recommend a modem and/or a hotspot. They can be a lifesaver for your CLNC business. I’m sure you’ll agree.
Keep on techin’,
Tom
