The Real Patient’s Bill of Responsibilities

I’ve blogged about the “Real Patient’s Bill of Rights” and, while I am a strong patient advocate, I’d be remiss if I didn’t blog about the “Real Patient’s Bill of Responsibilities.” If we have a right to healthcare, then it follows that we certainly have responsibilities associated with that right. So, here I go – I’ll take the first stab at what I think the “Real Patient’s Bill of Responsibilities” should be. I know some of you will strongly agree with these and some of you will strongly disagree. Either way, go ahead and share your thoughts. Here’s my take on the “Real Patient’s Bill of Responsibilities:”

My Most Memorable CLNC® Case

My Most Memorable CLNC® Case: My Compassion Helped Settle the Case for $2.5 Million Dollars

My most memorable case involved a 21-year-old Portuguese speaking woman who was about to have her second child. During the C-section closure, the patient sustained an injury to her bladder which resulted in the development of a vesicouterine fistula and vesicovaginal fistula. She suffered for five days without being able to communicate her needs, pain or fear to the medical staff. She was eventually transferred to a tertiary care hospital but had to undergo a hysterectomy to repair the injury to her bladder. The failure to recognize the injury lasted five days.

Certified Legal Nurse Consultants – Tame the Social Media Beast

If you’re constantly asking where do all of the hours go, you are the perfect candidate for disconnecting. Smartphone apps make it fun and easier than ever to read our friends’ status updates and to see the photos they’ve posted on Facebook. It makes us feel good when they “like” something we’ve posted or when we’re tagged in one of their photos. That’s one reason social media is so addicting – it’s like experiencing human hugs all day long. Now that you understand why you like it, it’s time to tame the beast and take back your time.

My Most Memorable CLNC® Case

My Most Memorable CLNC® Case: I Expanded My Role as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant

This is one of my most memorable cases because it expanded my role as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant. The child in this case was 4-years-old when he attended a church day care while his parents attended services. He was an active, healthy child, but did have a milk allergy. The boy was aware of his own allergy and always told his teachers he could not drink milk.

Tom's Tech Tips

Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Legal Nurse Consultants Should Always Have Locks with Their Bagels

We’ve all been there – in a Starbucks with our laptops, drinking coffee and munching on a bagel or other tasty snack while working on our legal nurse consulting business or waiting for an appointment with an attorney-client. Then, right after the third vente skinny latte, you guessed it, it’s restroom time. I know that nurses can (and often do) go for weeks without using the restroom, but sometimes duty just plain calls. When that happens, what do you do with your laptop?

Certified Legal Nurse Consultants If You’re Gonna Bust Something, Make It Your Plans

Every day I wake up with a plan. By the time I’ve had my second cup of healthy green tea I’ve usually busted that plan. So am I suggesting that I’m beginning to think planning is a waste of time for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants? Absolutely not. Planning is what gives you and your legal nurse consulting business vision, direction and intention.
