The term “strength in numbers” is never more true than when you’re promoting your legal nurse consulting business. Yet I am often surprised how little this not-so-secret strategy is utilized.
Remember when the buzzword of the day was the “paperless office?” All Certified Legal Nurse Consultants imagined online collaboration or marking up of electronic documents through Adobe Acrobat’s “Sticky Notes,” Microsoft Word’s “Track Changes,” Google Docs or, if you had the technology, a SharePoint server.
An RN attending the CLNC Certification Seminar shared that an attorney has been badgering her for five years to become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant through LegalNurse.com. When I asked her, “What took you so long?” I was expecting her to say something like, “I got married” or “I was recovering from an accident,” but instead she said, “I thought the program was expensive.”
Society often concludes that successful people are successful because they have all the answers. I’ve been blessed to hang with some extremely successful people. For 33 years I’ve studied successful CEOs and consultants and why they succeed no matter the conditions or the economy.

Houston has long been a restaurant city. A story in the USA Today revealed that we have more than 10,000 restaurants here in Houston. Naturally I haven’t eaten in all of them, but I’ve got more than a few under my belt.
On a recent flight from New York City to Houston, the retired CEO of the airline on which we were flying was seated one row over from me. I’d recognized him when he and his wife were escorted to the gate and allowed to pre-board after much bowing and scraping by gate staff. Needless to say, once aboard they were treated like royalty throughout the entire flight.
Many registered nurses enter legal nurse consulting because they are seeking to leave bedside nursing and their stressful RN hospital job. At our CLNC Certification Seminar I encountered a young nurse who entered nursing because, first and foremost, she wanted to become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant!
Right after my Opening speech at the 2015 National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants Conference, one of the CLNC® consultants came up to me and excitedly said, “Vickie I’m ready! I am ready to be successful as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant!” My question back to her was, “Are you ready to do what it’s going to take to be successful?”
I’ve never met a Broadway play I didn’t like (except maybe one or two by Harold Pinter) and any time I’m in New York City I cram in as many Broadway shows as I can. Tom and I love it all – drama (Chekov’s “The Seagull” with the unexpected bonus of sitting right behind Keanu Reeves), outlandish musicals (“Kinky Boots”) and dance performances (“Alvin Ailey”). But as much as I love theater I also love roaming the streets of New York City.
