While Henry David Thoreau took simple living to an extreme that most of us would be hard-pressed to imagine, much less embrace for more than 24 hours, all Certified Legal Nurse Consultants and RNs could benefit from these sage words.
Thomas Eric Duncan died yesterday from Ebola and I would like to express my deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones. I also feel for the 48 people being monitored for symptoms after their possible exposure. In view of the high mortality of Ebola his death may not have been preventable, but U.S. healthcare showed a poor face for its first Ebola diagnosis on American soil.
I love my iPhone and can’t wait to upgrade to the new iPhone 6. Based on backorders though, it’ll be late November or early December before I can get my hands on one. Most CLNC consultants are probably suffering the same wait. But the burning question all my CLNC amigos have to ponder (while they wait) is whether we simply want a larger, faster iPhone (the screen on the iPhone 6 measures 4.7” diagonally versus the 4” iPhone 5s) or want the extra larger, faster iPhone 6 Plus, a so-called phablet (yes it’s a real word – Google it yourself) measuring in at 5.7” diagonally (slightly smaller than the 7.9” iPad Mini).
As if RNs working in hospital jobs aren’t stressed enough – along comes Ebola. For the record, I am not panicking about an Ebola epidemic (yet). The official death toll from Ebola at the date of this blog is just under 4,000 people – this is in some of the poorest and most densely populated countries in the world.
Plaintiff attorneys are driven by the damages in a case, but that doesn’t mean they go after all of the available damages. For example, an attorney representing a plaintiff in a vegetative state from facility #1 would probably not pursue pressure ulcer damages caused by facility #2.
The best business advice I received when I started my legal nurse consulting business came from an unlikely source – my CPA. We all know that one person who stresses over every little thing – like getting groped by TSA at the airport, the waitress taking too long to bring the check or the pizza’s not crispy enough. I believe there’s a direct correlation between not having enough “big stuff” to do and stressing over the little things.
I was mentoring a very successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who was upset because of an issue with a subcontractor. The problem was legitimate, but this CLNC consultant was more focused on harping about the problem than she was on working out the solution.
