When successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultants recognize a problem, they don’t focus on that problem; instead they get to work on a solution. That’s a nursing skill we’re all familiar with. Think about it: when a patient arrests you don’t sit around and discuss the cause of the arrest or debate what to do – instead you jump in and handle the situation with speed, focus and accuracy. Root cause analysis can come later: first there’s a life to save.
Analysis paralysis is one of the biggest mistakes people make when confronting a problem. Thomas Edison said, “There are no rules here – we’re trying to accomplish something.” And frequently what we’re trying to invent is a solution to a problem. Because frankly, problems don’t usually come to us neatly packaged with a “solutions guidebook.” So go ahead, do something. The sooner you do, the sooner you can check that problem off your list.
When we face a problem at the Institute, I joke with my staff that if business was easy, everybody would be doing it. Once that problem strikes, I’m in the solution business. What about you? What business are you in?
I’m just sayin’,
P.S. Comment and share how you approach problems.
I needed this today. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the problem (or problems) at hand and not the solution. Thank you Vickie for your practical approach to being a CLNC® consultant….and life.
