I recently mentored a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant who is subcontracting with one of the most successful CLNC® consultants in the industry. She shared that she is frustrated because she wants to grow her own business, not someone else’s.
My reply, “What’s holding you back from marketing and exhibiting at legal conferences?” Her response floored me. “Vickie I don’t have time to market and exhibit. I’m too busy subcontracting.” My response, “Who do you think has time? None of us have time. We make time for what we want. If you have time to subcontract, you have time to exhibit and market to attorneys. Period. End of statement!”
I thought I’d heard all of the self-defeating excuses in the book, but this one gets the prize. “I don’t have time to be successful” – if that’s not a self-defeating attitude what is? If you can’t find time to be successful in your legal nurse consulting business how will you ever be successful?
I further advised “You can’t get any closer to success than you already are. Open your eyes and pay attention to what the CLNC consultant you subcontract with does and continues to do every day to be successful. You might just notice SHE MADE THE TIME…”
