Vickie’s Favorite Quotes: Pablo Picasso

We all want to be successful. We all want to be prosperous and we all want to be… one night alone with Hugh Jackman. Well maybe that last one is just me. LOL!

Vickie Milazzo’s Favorite Picasso Quote About Imagination

To achieve any goal, first you have to imagine. As children we imagine all the time. As adults we become practical and stop imagining. Let’s face it, talking to imaginary friends as a child is called imaginative. Talking to imaginary friends as an adult is called “The locked-down psych ward is right down the hall.”

To top it off, as RNs we concern ourselves with lab reports, x-rays and physical symptoms. We don’t trust things we can’t see. And we’re so busy, we don’t have time to go to the bathroom, much less imagine. But creating a successful legal nurse consulting business means first reawakening our imagination and then retraining it towards bold intentions.

As nurses, we all have the same ability to analyze medical records. But talent and experience alone is not going to make you successful. What then is the distinguishing trait of successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultants? It’s simple. As Pablo Picasso said, Everything you can imagine is real.” Successful people imagine vividly what they want. Successful people aren’t discouraged by naysayers. Successful people believe in the vision they see – and act on that vision. No matter what.

Thank God Benjamin Franklin didn’t listen to his mother when she said, “Benjamin Thomas Franklin, let go of that kite and get out of the rain before you catch a cold. You’re a grown man and too old to be flying kites anyway.”

All my life people have told me, “Vickie, that can’t be done” and I did it anyway. People said to me, “Vickie, you can’t start a legal nurse consulting business – you’re just a nurse,” and I did it anyway. They said, “Vickie, you’ll never write a book – you’re too busy,” and I wrote two bestsellers anyway. They said, “Vickie, you can’t bungee jump off a bridge after a full meal.” Okay, that advice I should have listened to.

I achieved what I imagined, nothing more. Are you with me? I can practically hear some of you thinking, “Vickie, it wasn’t my imagination that got me where I am today. It was education. It was hard work. It was sucking up to the right people. It was blah, blah, blah.”

And of course you’re right. Nothing of importance is ever achieved without knowledge, hard work, a little sucking up and a lot of blah, blah, blah. But imagine 300 years ago if a nurse had said, “I’m going to thump this dead man’s chest and bring him back to life,” she wouldn’t have been called a nurse. She’d have been branded a witch, burned at the stake or even worse, unfriended on Facebook. But if it had been a man they’d have shaken his hand, called him “visionary” and given him the honorary title of “doctor.”

But nurses today do just that, we bring people back to life. Business as usual… Keeps the patient census right where it’s supposed to be and keeps Joint Commission happy. But first, someone had to imagine CPR was possible and convince the rest of the world.

If you want to achieve big goals, you’re going to need to carve out some time each day to sit quietly, perhaps listen to soft music or even take a daily walk. Do something to stir your imagination. Everything you can imagine is real.

Success Is Yours!
