The Happier You Are, the Happier You Are

I love the joy of the Christmas season, but I can’t help but notice that we are a society that’s becoming more and more obsessed with happiness at the expense of happiness. You can practically hear people thinking: “If I get this I’ll be happy. If I look like that I’ll be happy. If I drive this, wear this, watch this or eat this… I’ll be happy.” You know what I’m talking about, you’ve probably got your own “If I” working right now. Admit or deny. Mine is “If only I had more hours in the day…”

There’s nothing wrong with having the goal of being happy. But too often, we want to reach the goal of happiness without the pain required to achieve it. In fact, pain avoidance probably keeps most people from reaching their happiness potential. Many people don’t want to do the hard work required to get to the “happy part.”

In your life, your CLNC® business and your relationships, there’s no easy way to get to point B without the pain of starting at point A and working your way from there. If you want a life of leisure you’ve got to work some length of time to pay for it. If you want to start a legal nurse consulting business you’ll have to put yourself through the pain of working after work, working on weekends and missing a few episodes of Dancing with the Stars to build your CLNC business. If you want to be happily married for 23 years, 6 months and twenty days (but who’s still counting) you’ve got to go through the pain of being married for 23 years, 6 months and nineteen days first.

No matter what your personal flavor or desire of happiness is, you’ve got to pay some dues before you get the payoff. Whether you want to buy a new pair of Manolos or just want to eat that entire Key Lime pie, there will be some pain or work involved. You’re going to have to get serious about your business as a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant to pay for those shoes and get your butt to the gym to work off the pie.

To paraphrase Ben Franklin, the Constitution only gives us the right to pursue happiness, we’ve got to catch it ourselves.  What are you willing to do to catch more happiness in 2014? If you know, what are you waiting for?

I’m Just Askin’

P.S. Comment here and share what you’re doing today to pursue your personal dream of happiness.

  1. I admit I have taken the major part of the last 2 weeks off from my CLNC® business. I prepared for the holidays while kicking myself for ignoring my business. I am now ready to buckle down once again, make a list of jump starts to do and DO IT. I have deadlines to meet and great plans for this next year.
