Top 5 TED Talks for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

What inspires you to be your best self? Encouragement from friends and family? A long weekend to recharge? A sunny spring day in May? I look for inspiration at every turn, and let me tell you when you look for inspiration you almost always find it!

I encourage you to watch these five TED Talks (favorites!) They will inspire and enlighten you in both your personal and professional life. If you’re looking for that extra kick to get up, get out and make something amazing happen, just watch, listen and learn!

  1. What Makes Us Feel Good About Our Work? Dan Ariely, Behavioral Economist – What motivates us to work? Money, yes, but meaning, creation, challenge, ownership, identity and pride are the strongest motivators of all. Dan Ariely reveals that what motivates us is the promise of reaching an end or accomplishing something. We care about the fight or the challenge; about making constant progress and feeling a sense of purpose. How about you? How do you find meaning in your legal nurse consulting business?
  2. Your Body Language Shapes Who You Are Amy Cuddy, Professor at Harvard Business School – What does your body language communicate to others? As Amy Cuddy describes, despite qualifications equal to our peers, confident and non-confident body language can impact our chances for success – for better and for worse. After all, our nonverbal interactions govern how other people (attorneys included) think and feel about us. Be strong and confident in your personal and professional interactions. Believe it or not, powerful body language shapes how your life and CLNC® business will unfold.
  3. Dare to Disagree Margaret Heffernan, Management Thinker – Are you being challenged in your business? While most people instinctively avoid conflict, Margaret Heffernan shows us how to view constructive conflict as problem solving. Noting that good disagreement is central to progress, she urges listeners to find ways to engage with people of different backgrounds and different experiences. Conflicting views can validate our work, push us to fight for our beliefs and uncover truths that might otherwise be discarded or ignored. This is never more true than when consulting with attorneys. The question is do you dare to disagree?
  4. Why You Will Fail To Have A Great Career Larry Smith, Professor of Economics at the University of Waterloo – No matter how many times we are encouraged to pursue our passions, most will decide not to. Too busy? Too lazy? Afraid? In a humorous and blunt talk, Larry urges us to quit making excuses and simply pursue our passions – all of them. And if you do, you’ll never have to utter those dreaded words, “If only I had….”
  5. How to Make Work-Life Balance Work Nigel Marsh, Author – Do you have a healthy work-life balance? Nigel Marsh points out that it’s up to you to take control and be responsible for designing the life that you want to lead. As a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant, you’ve already made the move away from long hospital hours towards a career that rewards you with family time, personal time and productivity. And yet in any career you can find yourself pushed and pulled by everyone (friends and family included) to give more. Never forget – you set and enforce the boundaries of your own life. If not, someone else will and you may not like their idea of balance.

One of My 5 Promises (Promise #4) is to be a success student for life. Learning from the talent you’ll find in these TED talks is a genius way to act on Promise #4.
