Certified Legal Nurse Consultants – Get Up and Stand Up!

A recent study has validated a fact all RNs already know – the more physically active we are (walking, standing and doing just about anything except sitting) the less we’re at risk for chronic disease. When you worked in your RN job at the hospital you enjoyed the health benefits of moving all day long through those 12-hr shifts.

Certified Legal Nurse Consultants will want to heed this study, especially if you’re the type of CLNC® consultant who develops blood clots from sitting at your computer all day long. This study proves that we cannot work out at the gym in the morning and consider ourselves covered for the day. Exercise is good, but 30 or 60 minutes of exercise with little to no movement throughout the day is not good enough. Interrupting sessions of sitting with sessions of walking and standing is the recommendation.

Last year I put an adjustable desk in each of my offices that allows me to both sit and stand. I enjoy it more than I ever imagined I would and it’s my favorite piece of office furniture. Meetings I used to hold sitting around our conference table, I now hold at my standing desk. Not only does it feel good, it cuts out a lot of the “fluff.” I’m thinking of changing everyone’s desk and the entire conference room to these. LOL!

So Certified Legal Nurse Consultants, in the words of Bob Marley, it’s time to “Get Up, Stand Up” and move around more during the day. Climb your stairs, stand at your desk – just don’t spend the day sitting in front of your computer churning out your legal nurse consulting report. It’s better for your health, your brain and ultimately your CLNC business to move around. Trust me on this one!

I’m Just Sayin’

P.S. Comment and share whether you’ve ever considered a standing desk. I’m loving mine!

  1. I’m so glad you brought up a standing desk. I move back and forth from my desk to the kitchen bar, dragging my work materials from one place to the other, just to avoid sitting all day. Thanks to your blog, I just ordered the “Varidesk” which goes on top of your existing desk. It allows both a sitting and standing position. I can’t wait to try it!

  2. I have to agree with you Vickie about this study. I have worked with the elderly population for years and I have said to myself, “getting old sucks.” As nurses, we all know the consequences of not having enough body movement to prevent tissue breakdown. A consistent change of positions every two hours was recommended for many years. As a CLNC® consultant it may be hours before you think about moving around and after you feel the pain while working on reports.

  3. Thanks for reminding me. I do travel with my current position, but 3-4 months out of the year I am sitting analyzing death reviews and sometimes I forget to go to the bathroom or eat. I keep telling myself to bring my sneakers and walk occasionally. I am new to this field and trying to make a decision on the course of study to take.

  4. What brand is the adjustable or standing desk? I’ve looked on the internet and also need a standing desk with a left cutout as well. I have been in PT for one month due to back strain and bulging disk issues!
