Want Guaranteed Lifetime Employment? Become a Certified Legal Nurse Consultant!

When’s the last time you’ve read your hospital’s mission statement? And, as an RN, how would you rate your healthcare facility’s performance? Does your hospital live up to the hype? Or instead, do they sacrifice quality for profits?

I often joke that my goal is to be out of a job as a legal nurse consultant because when that day comes, I’ll know that patients are safe from medical and nursing malpractice. Of course, as long as there are healthcare providers and hospitals, that day will never come. Consider that 400,000 people die every year in hospitals from nursing and medical malpractice. Needless to say, the healthcare system has a huge problem on its hands.

An RN was outraged that I shared this study – like we shouldn’t talk about the elephant in the room. My response: “Until the problem is fixed, more than 4,000 Certified Legal Nurse Consultants will continue to do what we do best – that is call it the way we see it, whether or not hospitals, physicians and nurses like it. I recommend healthcare providers stop shooting the messenger and fix the problem. If you don’t you’ll continue to guarantee employment for CLNC® consultants.”

You can thank me now or Certified Legal Nurse Consultants will thank you later.

I’m Just Sayin’

P.S. Comment and share whether or not you think medical malpractice will be eliminated in our lifetimes.

  1. I have been a nurse for almost 35 years. I have a vast amount of experience and I love what I do. I have seen and experienced a rapid decline in healthcare. It is big business and many hospitals are raking in millions as non-profit organizations at the expense of their nurses. It is no longer about the quality of care that the nurse delivers to the patient or “customer”.Productivity is the key. Emphasis is placed on minutes and the expectation of entering data into the EMR in a set amount of time. No consideration is given to difficult situations involving the patients, the families, or unruly and aggressive visitors. Administrators and mangers refuse to acknowledge the problems that include and are not limited to lack of supplies, unsafe staffing, unavailable or non-stocked medications. Nurses are handed corrective actions for not taking lunch or dinner breaks. Most of all you are reprimanded for not leaving on time and accused of accumulating unauthorized overtime. Visitation has become an open door policy and there are no rules. Customer service scores have taken precedence over safety. I have come to the point in my nursing practice that I will no longer place productivity and the bottom line before safe delivery of quality and compassionate care. I have had an interest in legal nurse consulting for years. I have always been a strong patient advocate. I now feel it is imperative to be an advocate for nurses. A seasoned nurse doesn’t have a chance in this type of environment. I have had my Ah Ha moment.
