Certified Legal Nurse Consultants – Are Smartphones Out-Smarting Us?

Any CLNC® consultant you ask will tell you that their smartphone is the best thing that’s ever happened to them and their legal nurse consulting business. But, have our smartphones out-smarted us and made us less – instead of more – smart and productive? It’s time to take back your life from your smartphone, recover your common sense and rediscover what it means to be productive.

The quickest way to accomplish all three is to turn off cyberspace. I repeat – turn it off. I promise you won’t go into asystole if you do. Of course when you turn off cyberspace, you might need a Xanax to calm your nerves after the first 10 distraction-free minutes.

Successful Certified Legal Nurse Consultants know there’s no greater blow to productivity in your life or CLNC business than breaking your concentration to reply to an email or text as soon as it hits your smartphone. At the end of the day, no award will be handed out to the person who responded to email or texts the fastest. If you’re doing nothing but responding to the pinging and rattling of emails and texts, you’re bouncing around like a pinball. Not to mention writing that report for your attorney-client will feel ten times harder than it needs to be.

It’s also important to keep in mind that the purpose of email and texts is not to generate more email and texts. Unless a response is necessary in order for the sender to move ahead on a task or project, it’s okay to let them have the last word. The more you’re connected to your smartphone, the less you’re connected to yourself and the important case at hand.

I’m just sayin’

P.S. Comment here and share whether you need to turn off cyberspace more often.

  1. I agree wholeheartedly. My sounds are off or muted. I find nothing more annoying than to hear some cutesy ringtone song come from a phone, interrupting when I am with a patient or client. Text and emails are there so we can address them in a timely manner when we have the time to devote to them – not be interrupted by them.
