The Trick to Real Celebrity is Keeping it Real

Yesterday, a nurse at the Houston CLNC® Certification Seminar asked me, “How does it feel to be a celebrity?” My response, “I’m a working CEO (who, for the record, gets up at 4:00am every morning). I don’t have time to bask in admiration. Plus, if my head ever starts to swell, my staff is quick to remind me there’s real work to do. There’s nothing like 20 employees to help me keep it real.”

In truth, I find life more interesting when I spend my time admiring someone other than me, like the talented, strong and sometimes flawed RNs I meet every day. Nurses who know me, know I don’t just glance at them. I look deep into who they are and affirm them in genuine ways. I hate fakery. I prefer to keep it real, so when I have nothing genuinely nice to say, which thank goodness, is a rare happenstance, I choose to say nothing instead.

Nurses love me, because I respect them and because I love them back. At every CLNC® Certification Seminar I meet nurses with credentials, experience and responsibilities that blow me away. Nurses bring so much to the table for attorneys, and at the same time, are so humble about it.

Loving and respecting nurses for who they are. That is my only secret to celebrity – that and of course getting up at 4:00am. My secret works with attorneys too – not just nurses. Genuinely love your attorney-clients and they’ll love you back.

I can’t think of an easier tip for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.

I’m just sayin’

P.S. Comment and share how you keep it real.
