Tom’s Tuesday Tech Tip: Don’t Let Your Computer or Your Legal Nurse Consulting Business Keep You Up at Night

Many of us work well into the night at our computers. Whether you’re working on projects for your Certified Legal Nurse Consulting business, something personal or just closing out your Facebook and email for the evening, you’re exposed to the full brightness of your computer monitor. If you’re like me, your computer is in a room with windows, which means either the computer or I am the brightest light in the room and contrast highly against the dark of night.

If you head straight to bed from your legal nurse consulting office space and that computer, you’ll have a more difficult time adjusting to the darkness. Studies have shown that we should wean ourselves from light to darkness versus going straight from light to dark in order to get better sleep.

Here’s a solution that will ease the transition from busy Certified Legal Nurse Consultant to sleeping CLNC® amigo – it’s called f.lux. f.lux is freeware that senses the time in your local area and adjusts the brightness of your computer monitor – laptop, desktop (single or multiple monitors) to match that time of day.

The earlier in the morning or later at night you work on your CLNC® business the dimmer your monitor will be, allowing your eyes to better adjust to ambient lighting conditions. When you’re working during the day, your screen will be at full brightness. It installs an icon in your Windows Toolbar to allow you to easily exit f.lux when you need to brighten up that screen to match your mood or get brighter color resolution. Best of all it’s available for Windows®, Macs® and even you techie CLNC® consultants running Linux!

I’ve had this installed for some time now and love it. The times I appreciate f.lux the most are first, when I’m checking email early in the morning before I stumble downstairs for my first cup of healthy green tea and second, when I’m working on a red-eye flight. The whole flying experience is unpleasant enough without having my laptop standing out like a lighthouse and bothering the other passengers in steerage with Vickie and me.

Download f.lux, try it yourself and pass it on.

Keep on techin’,

Tom

P.S. Comment here and let me know your experience with f.lux!

  1. Thank you so much. This really helped my battle with severe dry eyes. Really great timing for me. Eye pain has reduced my ability to use computer for a prolonged period.
