Tom’s Tech Tip: Two Reasons to Reboot Your Legal Nurse Consulting Electronics

Certified Legal Nurse Consultants own all sorts of electronics. If you stop to think about it, the number and variety is staggering. There are business devices such as phones, tablets, iPods®, laptops, desktops, printers and your Internet modem. Then there are the home electronics such as your television and cable box.

All these devices usually function flawlessly – until they don’t. It’s hard to imagine any legal nurse consulting career that doesn’t involve daily interaction with at least three to five devices.

I’ve long been an advocate of rebooting your legal nurse consulting business’s computers at least once a week. This clears up memory leaks – which occur when a program starts taking up more and more memory. Rebooting also allows you to shut down those miscellaneous services that are still running long after their associated programs have been closed – releasing even more memory.

But today’s Tech Tip applies to more than just your laptop or desktop. It’s just as important for your phone, tablet and even your printer. As devices have gotten smarter, they’ve been loaded with more and more onboard memory and sensors necessary to accomplish all the various functions they do. Many of your phone and tablet apps continue running in the background until you shut them off by brute force. Your printer monitors how much ink you’re using and how many pages it’s printed among other functions. Even your cable modem can stand the occasional reboot to clear it out.

All that aside, there’s one more reason to reboot any form of electronics (unless something catastrophic has occurred) – a reboot will clear up a lot of other problems (such as hung-up programs) and give you a fresh start. If only it were that simple with our lives and legal nurse consulting businesses. LOL!

Take some time today to power cycle your business and personal hardware. Turn each device off and leave it off for a couple of minutes to allow all those leaks and services to fully go away. Then, when you restart it, it’ll feel almost like new. It’s the simplest form of electronics maintenance for your legal nurse consulting business.

Keep on Techin’,

Tom

P.S. Comment and share how often you reboot your devices.

  1. I don’t have to worry about rebooting. The power lines are so faulty where we live that a squirrel who hits an above ground line 5 miles away will shut down our underground power lines. I just make sure to save my work anytime I am walking away from my desk (and any time the lights flicker)!!
