The Windows® operating system and its associated Microsoft® Office applications, in all of their various forms, can often be buggy and frustrating to use. MS Office programs run normally for months, then for no apparent reason, crash every time you put in a period (.).
Programs such as Media Player act up and even PowerPoint does funny things. Critical updates cause issues in what were previously stable programs. There seems to be no logic to what makes it work or not work.
Here’s the good news for all Certified Legal Nurse Consultants – when you run into unforeseen issues, Microsoft offers a free site full of easy to use diagnostics, fixes and all sorts of useful items. The Fix it Solution Center houses a plethora of information that can help you repair your Microsoft programs. I’ve found it to be quite useful and think you will too.
But, when all else fails, you can always reset your Windows OS to a point before you downloaded a buggy driver or your registry became corrupted. To learn how, simply click here and follow the steps. I use System Restore more often than I care to admit and find that it always, and I mean always, works. For me, calling Tech Support is the last act of a desperate man. After all, if you can’t solve it yourself you’ve missed half the fun and hours of frustration (just kidding).
Keep on Techin’,
P.S. Comment and share how you solve your computer problems.
Tom, I am wondering about the new Windows 10 upgrade. Do you have an opinion on whether or not I should go ahead and upgrade while the offer is free, or wait and see if there are “bugs” that need to be worked out? Its promised increased security is my immediate interest in it. Thanks so much, Tom.
Barbara,
Here’s a Tech Tip on that very question: https://www.legalnurse.com/legal-nurse-consulting-blog/2015/06/toms-tech-tip-should-certified-legal-nurse-consultants-upgrade-to-windows-10-or-not.
I’d definitely recommend waiting for the bugs to be worked out before upgrading to any new OS – Windows or Apple.
Tom
