Tom’s Tech Tip: It’s a Mobile World for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants

As Labor Day approaches and as legal nurse consultants have become more mobile in your labor, I’ve reconsidered my stance on tablets versus laptops/desktops. I don’t believe that, as of today, a tablet can fully replace what, for purposes of this Tech Tip, I’ll call an “actual computer.” But experimentation and experience is showing that Microsoft’s® Surface tablet is coming pretty close.

Even Apple® has recently started making overtures to business app creators (accounting, presentations, etc.) to make the iPad® family less of a content consumer and more of an all-around computer replacement and content generator. When Apple starts moving into the mainstream, it’s time for Certified Legal Nurse Consultants and the rest of us to sit up and take notice.

I like to say that “the future is ahead of us.” In fact, to get ready for the future, today I’m traveling with an iPad instead of my trusty laptop. I have a portable keyboard and a full array of business apps to keep me productive and occupied so I’ll see how I do. There was some “separation anxiety” but I’m sure my laptop isn’t missing me as much as I was missing it. What really matters is whether you can do your legal nurse consulting work, not which device you do it on.

I’m going on the record as a firm believer that we’ll all be on tablets one day and that day is coming soon. I for one can’t wait. What about you and your legal nurse consulting business? Are you ready?

Keep on Techin’,

P.S. Comment and share your feelings on tablets for your legal nurse consulting business.

  1. Tom, Great info! Can you give us some insight into the “business apps” you use that would be helpful to our daily work???
