I love this time of year. Everything and everybody is a little lighter and a lot brighter. Tom and I have a favorite Christmas tradition that starts tomorrow and I can’t wait. We celebrate each day of the Twelve Days of Christmas with simple gifts – a book, a DVD or some small treasure we’ve brought back from the road. The real fun is hiding the gift. Sometimes I’ll put Tom’s gift out early in the morning, say on our tea tray. Other times I’ll torture him by putting it out just before we go to bed. He’s extremely inventive and I often find gifts in the unlikeliest of places, such as the pocket of my winter coat.
The tradition is the gift and for the next 12 days it’s a reminder of the true spirit of the holiday and the importance of keeping the true meaning of Christmas in our hearts.
Joy to the world!
P.S. Comment here and share your favorite holiday tradition.
One of my favorite traditions is that every year since my sons were born, I’ve bought them a Hallmark ornament with the year on it. From their “Babies First Christmas” to now just “Son 2012” (they are 24 and 22 years old now). When they get married and have their own trees, they’ll have all those year’s ornaments to decorate the tree!
Thank you, Vickie. My husband, Ed, does not like the commercialization of Christmas. Therefore, we do not do a lot of gift shopping. The kids are grown and our 5 granddaughters only make lists for what they want. This special 12 days of Christmas is a great way to share with Ed and letting him know every day there is at least one special thought of him. Thank you for putting Christmas back in our lives as it should be.
