On the Road Again…

I’m about to hit the road again for the fall season of CLNC® 6-Day Certification Seminars. Even though I must confess when I’m at home I enjoy my personal “Tower of Whipped Cream Terror” I find that when I’m at home it’s easier to maintain my healthy habits than when I’m on the road.

Seriously, at home I’m like a school girl during the week and put sleep ahead of nighttime diversions. On the road though, while the CLNC® students are studying every night, I’m out with speakers and staff dining at what feels like an endless stream of Denny’s, Applebee’s and the occasional IHOP. Thank goodness that the speakers are rowdy and crazy and make everything fun (although there’s one particular Cracker Barrel that’s banned us for life and I won’t name the speaker responsible).

To balance things out, I keep junk food out of the house. On the road temptations abound and resistance is often futile. When I get home from a road trip I need a week or more to detox – especially if I’ve been eating out with my twin brother Vince who thinks catsup on his French fries counts as a serving of fruits and vegetables (I will confess, there are days I want to convert to his side).

Back home in Houston, I belong to the perfect gym and have the perfect trainer, plus an idyllic neighborhood which invites me to get off my butt and go out for calming walks after a hard day in the office. On the road, where hotel gyms can be spotty at best, I have to get creative to exercise properly and a Thighmaster just doesn’t cut it. Plus, there’s no trainer pushing me to go all in and “finish it out.” I’m wondering if someone could create an app for my iPhone that could make it heavier or lighter for weight training (hint, hint).

Taking care our ourselves is imperative – even in the toughest of times – if we expect to enjoy our legal nurse consulting business and our life, day after day after day. I’m smart enough to know the next two months will challenge my resolve. I’m also smart enough to know I don’t have to be, and won’t be, perfect. All I have to do is be more health-minded than not. And the healthier I am, the healthier I want to be, and for sure, the more I enjoy being on the road again. I just wonder if my whip creamer will slip by TSA.

Success Is Inside!

P.S. Comment and share your favorite tip for staying healthy when you’re “on the road.”

  1. Vitamins, minerals, trace minerals – when I religiously take them then I crave healthy food. When I hmmmm “forget” to take them – Denny’s, Applebee’s and always an IHOP here I come.

  2. For on-the-road or at-home fitness/diet assistance, http://www.myfitnesspal.com is very helpful in monitoring calories consumed as well as calories burned. Unfortunately, road trips usually provide an excess of the former, not the latter.

I’m currently in South Dakota for a class reunion and calories taken in thus far have greatly exceeded calories burned in the fitness center.
