Over 20,000 nurses from all over the nation have been trained as certified legal nurse consultants.
For That One Nurse Among Millions – It Is the Recognition of a Lifetime Vickie Milazzo Honored for ‘Advancing the Profession’
HOUSTON, Oct. 22, 2004 – There are awards, and then there are awards – and if you were a nurse, you would want to win a ‘Nursing Excellence’ award from NurseWeek magazine. Houston businesswoman Vickie L. Milazzo, RN, MSN, JD, won the magazine’s 2004 top recognition, “for her work in advancing the nursing profession,” said Glen Fest, of Dallas, NurseWeek managing editor.
Fest said Milazzo – who started her $10 million company from her one-bedroom condo in 1982 – was honored from among millions of RNs because she discovered a new direction for nurses to use their professional skills and experience.
“Vickie Milazzo is one of our most unusual winners,” said Fest, “because she achieved nursing excellence as an entrepreneur, not as a nurse working in a hospital environment.”
Milazzo owns Vickie Milazzo Institute, a division of Medical-Legal Consulting Institute, Inc., a company that enables RNs to turn their traditional hospital nursing careers into small businesses as healthcare consultants to the legal profession. Over 20,000 nurses from all over the nation have been trained as Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.
NurseWeek awards are especially valued among nurses because the national magazine is so well-known, said Fest. “NurseWeek is mailed every two weeks to 1.1 million RNs.”
