Just when I thought I was maxed out and operating at full capacity, the universe threw a curve ball at me. I was left with no choice but to step up to the plate and face that curve ball head on. It’s in these situations that I summon my own personal Thought for Success “If you want the impossible done give it to a woman on fire.”
I’m often in awe of, and humbled by, the nursing knowledge and expertise of the RNs who come through the CLNC® Certification Program. I joke with Tom that if I ever have a medical crisis I hope it’s in a roomful of Certified Legal Nurse Consultants.
So often I’ll hear someone ask, “Why is that woman successful? I’m just as talented, skilled and inventive as she is, so why not me?” There’s a pretty simple reason why, but it’s not one that most people are comfortable with.
With Independence Day this week we’ve all had an opportunity to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy as Americans. While we’re all free, we don’t all enjoy the same freedoms. Here’s a thought for success: “Success equals more freedom.”
I was blessed to have parents who were very open. I could talk to them about pretty much any subject and not feel weird or uncomfortable. We talked about sex, religion and politics and didn’t kill each other over the different opinions we held steadfast to.
Comfort can be a good thing, but once you start to lose the edge of thriving in the realm of uncomfortable it’s hard to get that edge back.
I recently dealt with a difficult business challenge and while doing so, I allowed my mind to go into all of the wrong places. This compounded the difficulty of the challenge and made it appear more daunting than it turned out to be.
Having to be cool can get in the way of success. I’ve never been that cool, but I have been successful. That’s why I believe there’s nothing cool about having to be cool.
Believing in yourself doesn’t make success easy. What it does do is make success possible. I know this because I’ve worked with and mentored tens of thousands of RNs who made it their goal to become legal nurse consultants. The RNs who succeed believe in themselves. Why? It’s the belief that gives them the courage to take the risks necessary to succeed.
None of us like the “F” word – “Failure,” but it’s important to understand that the act of permitting failure in your life and legal nurse consulting business is what frees you to take risks.
