I’ve always wanted to check out Virgin Airlines – curious what all the hoopla is about. While I never look forward to air travel, after my virgin flight with Virgin, I get it now. From check in, to the rap safety presentation, to the quality and choices of food, the experience felt fresh and hip.
Business is hard and I’m glad it is. Even after 32 years in business things don’t always go as planned at LegalNurse.com. Like all Certified Legal Nurse Consultants, we have days when the train comes off the track. And when it does, my staff is likely to hear me say, “If business was easy, everybody would be doing it.” That single phrase reminds me (and them) that there’s a reason no one else does what we do and no one does it the way we do it. After a laugh together we buckle down and work on getting the train back on the track.
Oprah is the most successful woman on the planet and there’s a reason. Okay, there are lots of reasons – she’s smart, creative, driven and outrageously fun, to name just a few. While all of these qualities contribute to her success, I believe she possesses one quality that trumps all others – she has a beautiful heart.

Being at the American Association for Justice Annual Convention this week has been a great reminder that everything in business is marketing and marketing for CLNC consultants means going where the attorneys go.
The National Nurses’ Stress Survey revealed that a whopping 88% of the RN respondents find it difficult to do something fun at least once a week. I personally wanted to cry as I read many of the comments about the lack of joy in the personal lives of nurses, including one from an RN who said, “About to get married and can’t get time off.”
We are privileged to live in a country where we are free to express our ideas and free to live out our dreams and desires. We are free to come and go as we please. But before we can enjoy all that freedom affords us, we must first free our minds and emotions from those self-defeating thoughts and behaviors that keep us from knowing and living our full potential.
As the owner of my legal nurse consulting business I’m an entrepreneur and entrepreneurs are known to be risk-takers. I admit I probably fall into that category. I’ve been taking risks for more than three decades now, so taking risks feels as natural as putting a hospital corner on my bed when making it.
When it comes to ambitions, RNs come in all shapes and sizes. We all want something different from our lives and nursing careers and that’s okay. But what’s not okay is to give up on ourselves and our dreams, hunkering down into survival mode.
When we welcome change and expand our agility, we realize that what we thought of as our “natural state” will never return to its former stiff and monotonous self. We find ourselves in a new space, one of unlimited options.
