Mountain bikers are taught “don’t look where you don’t want to go.” I’m not crazy enough to be a mountain biker and I’m not even a great biker. But, I have biked up and down some pretty challenging heights in Japan, Morocco and New Zealand. Also, after riding 23 miles down the Haleakala volcano in Hawaii and over the Hải Vân Pass in Vietnam, I can say first-hand that “don’t look where you don’t want to go” is very good advice.
As an RN, you come from an industry that shows scant respect for all you know and all you do. It’s a fact that consumers believe doctors make the big decisions. As a result, it’s doctors who get most of the credit. But you and I know that it is the nurse who has more patient interaction and invariably knows more about what’s really going on with the patient. And it pays substantially to convince attorneys of this fact.
We all know the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
